Wow, so you are moving out of your home? That’s a big step and it definitely requires some careful planning and thought. Here’s a list of things you might want to do before you actually leave your old home behind.
1. Call your service providers
You should probably do this at least a month in advance. You should either cancel your subscriptions or switch them over to your new home.
2. Buy plenty of packing supplies
You may not yet have started packing, but you know how it goes, a bunch of cardboard boxes, some plastic containers and endless strips of tape. Make sure you have plenty of each, to minimize the stress on the D day.
3. Purge your belongings
Before you actually start packing, consider what you want with you in your new home? There are probably some things you can leave behind. You can donate them, sell them or just throw them away.
4. Actually pack
The packing itself can be made easier too, if you follow some general rules. Pack the things you don’t use often, or aren’t using at the moment (like winter clothes or photo albums) first. You can actually do this a week before the move day, to spread the load of packing to more than just a day or two. Also, label your boxes in some detail. What is in it, and where it goes in your new home. It will make it easier for the movers and for you when you need to unpack it later on.
5. Clean your home
Finally, on the day of the move, you would do well to clean your old home. A clean house is a great way to increase the selling value of the house. Or if you were renting it, you will be much more likely to get a full refund of your deposit. If you can’t make it on your own, call up Elite Cleaning to do it for you. (888) 627-1497
