Manage your space wisely
As a person who lives in a relatively small studio apartment, I have had to adapt to the limited space and learn some “life hacks”, as they are commonly called. These are some of my favorite “space hacks”, as I’ve dubbed them.
What’s above your bed? If you say ‘a poster’ or ‘nothing’, you’re doing it wrong. That’s a great spot for a bookshelf. In turn, you no longer need that cumbersome old bookcase that just takes up half the room. Or, you can do the reverse – get a loft bed and put your desk or your closet under it and save yourself a bunch of space.
Sometimes it is more convenient to just leave those clothes on the chair, or on the bed. But the cumulative effect of doing that, even for a few days can be devastating for the free space in your apartment. Deal with the clothes quickly and the room will breathe more easily.
Sort your papers
Probably the biggest source of clutter in a smaller home comes from papers. You’ve got some work-related paperwork on your desk, a booklet from that art expo from last week and some flyers on your coffee table, some receipts and bills and the clutter is complete. Sort this problem by getting yourself a specialized container for mail, and another for your disposable mail. At the end of the week, make sure you get rid of the contents of the latter one, and the clutter will disappear.
Now that you’ve actually made more of the space you have, here’s a little extra. You can make your place seem bigger by using mirrors. Not only that, but you can also get more light in. It’s a win-win.
